Fantastic colours and kites in close up

Red Kites in close up on Christmas day

Water is again flowing here after 2 weeks of freezing weather, and the roads are again passable by all vehicles.

The image on the left is just one frame from one of three high definition video cameras I set recording on Christmas day.

Aiming for lunch
I've never seen anything as beautiful as the films taken on the day. The colours are exquisite and the kites and buzzards are full frame!

I'll compress a little from each and put them on the web when they are ready.
These movies will doubtless be on dvd in future, and hopefully on blu-ray too at a later date.

Yesterday was the first time that I was able to clear the drive down to the tarmac but that left the yard still covered in snow. This caused a mini traffic jam as there was nowhere to park once cars had arrive.. Today I managed to clear a few larger areas and the thaw should do the rest.

Although I'm sorry in one respect to see the snow go because of the visual side of things, its so good to be able to turn on a tap again and see water flowing, and to be able to start vehicles first time on the key.
Temperatures were recorded at -18.35˚ at the beginning of the freeze, and the last fling on Sunday was even worse as it turned the winter diesel to gloop.
An investment in additives for extreme weather is now on the cards.
As soon as my computer has compressed some footage I'll post a link to the film.
In the mean time..
May we wish you a Very Happy New Year.

  1. Wow....great pictures. I can not wait to see the movies. It was a shame the conditions made it impossible for me to visit as it looks magical.

  2. Brilliant detail and movement Chris, lovely stuff. BigRog

  3. Awesome pictures Chris, what a way to spend Xmas Day. Thanks for 3 superb visits in December, look forward to heading back in the New Year. Best wishes

  4. It is on my list to visit.

Great human beings to live sensitive to our birds, instead of Killing, and misusing the natural world for greed, and private purposes.

Don't let anyone stop this wonderful sight in support of nature, and making us all think again about what it is to be human
